Searching for Surplus Feed

Searching for Surplus Feed

If you feel you have more than enough feed on hand to manage your own feed needs through till spring, it would be great if you would consider making it available for sale to farmers in areas that are experiencing drought conditions

A feed plan is encouraged prior to listing to ensure you don’t run yourself short.

Information about feed planning can be found at B+LNZ or DairyNZ.

This week has seen Waikato and South Auckland have a medium scale adverse event declared, classified as drought. These areas now join Southland in feeling the pinch of prolonged dry weather and the inability to grow feed and harvest supplementary feed to get them through the coming colder months before the grass starts growing. In some places this situation is compounded by a difficulty getting stock off farm at the usual time and limited grazing availability.

The National Feed Coordination Service is a free service, matching willing buyers with willing sellers. The service is actively sourcing feed to help those most in need of additional feed to get through the coming months.

The process to register your surplus feed is easy just call 0800 Farming (0800 327646) select option 2 and request a call back.

Alternately you can register online with the following links:

There is also the opportunity to register grazing with the following links:

The feed coordination service is supported by Federated Farmers, B+LNZ, DairyNZ and MPI.
