Animal Welfare

New Zealanders have high expectations that animals under human care are well looked after.
We all have responsibilities towards animals in our care and those affected by our activities. MPI helps develop policy and enforce animal welfare in New Zealand and it is important farmers maintain an up to date knowledge of animal welfare practices and regulation to ensure they are meeting their responsibilities.
We know farmers care deeply for their animals and circumstances impacting animal welfare can result in stress and distress for farmers.
Rural Support Trust Facilitators are trained to support and triage rural people who may be dealing with a range of challenges which may have had an impact on animal welfare. We are here to assist you in a caring, confidential and compassionate manner.
